The decision, according to PNOC-EC, was the result of requests for more time from interested bidders. These include the likes of First Gas Power Corp, Japan Gas Corp, Korean Gas Corp, Petronas, British Petroleum, Korean Electric Power Co, ChevronTexaco and Shell Philippines Exploration B.V.
In a statement PNOC-EC Vice President Rafael del Pillar said, “The bidders asked for a one-month extension from the original deadline of July 12. Many of them have requested for more time to study the details involving the project.”
PNOC hopes for operations on the US$100 million pipeline to begin in early 2007. Once operational it will transport natural gas from the Malampaya gas field to power plants in Metro Manila.
