Woollybutt-6H a wet blanket

THIS morning, the Woollybutt-6H appraisal penetrated the top of the reservoir section at a depth below the oil water contact observed in offset wells, Woolybutt-3A and Woollybutt-5A, junior partner Tap Oil reported. Operator Eni Australia will now plug and abandon the well.

Woollybutt-6H is a deviated appraisal well drilled about midway between the Woollybutt-3A and Woollybutt-5A discovery wells, according to Tap.

“Depth uncertainty was correctly recognised as the key issue requiring appraisal at this location,” the company said.

“The result does not impact the recent successful Woollybutt-4H well which will be tied back to the Woollybutt facility and is expected to begin production in the second quarter of 2008.”

THE Woollybutt oil field is in permit WA-25-L in Western Australia’s Barrow Sub-basin.

Joint Venture participants are Eni Australia (operator) 65%, Mobil Australia Resource Co 20% and Tap Oil 15%.
