CNOOC announces South China Sea success

China’s CNOOC Ltd has announced the success of a wildcat in its HZ 26-3 block. The HZ 26-3-1 well is located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin of the South China Sea in the Huizhou trough around 170 km south-east of Hong Kong.

In a statement the company said, “[HZ 26-3-1] was drilled to a total depth of 3,780 metres in 110 metres water depth. Drill stem tests on a 7.94 mm choke flowed over 1,400 barrels of 41-43 degree of light gravity crude and nearly 2 million cubic feet gas per day.”

According to CNOOC Ltd Senior Vice President Exploration Zhang Guohua, “Positive exploration results through independent activities in the area will help maintain the eastern South China Sea as a core production basin for CNOOC.”

“Successes of this nature fuels further exploration interests in the area,” added Zhang.

CNOOC Ltd holds a 100% stake in the block.
