Tarantula-1 sidetrack to restart operations

At the time unconfirmed industry reports said the well was flowing 20-30 million cubic feet per day through a 9 5/8" bore, putting a dent in the estimated 20bcf in the reservoir, although Origin said it was impossible to gauge the flow rate.

Other experts say the seven mud nozzles in the drill bit would have constrained the flow to less than that amount.

Several employees suffered minor scalds during the incident and were taken to hospital as a precaution before returning to work.

The lower part of the well has now been successfully plugged and abandoned while a kick off plug and suspension plug have been set for a future sidetrack well (Tarantula 1 ST1).

Interests in the well are Origin Energy (Operator) 67% and ARC Energy 33%.
