Noarlunga-1 holds no joy for Beach

The Noarlunga-1 exploration well has added to Beach Petroleums recent poor run by failing to enco...

Apart from the Harpoono-1 well Beach has had it pretty lean of late after a string of good performances last year. The company’s 50% partner in Noarlunga-1, Magellan Petroleum, has now turned its attention to the Palm Valley-11 development well which is beginning a second attempt at control drilling a sidetrack hole.

Attempts to retrieve a section of the drill string that twisted off on 17 June were unsuccessful and the first attempt to sidetrack around the fish was unsuccessful leading to a cement plug being placed in an attempt to sidetrack in order to proceed with the drilling operations.

The Palm Valley-11 well is located on the Palm Valley gas field approximately 120km west-southwest of Alice Springs in the north-central part of the Amadeus Basin.

Participants in the Palm Valley-11 well are Magellan Petroleum (operator) 52.023% and Santos 47.977%.
