THE BassGas project in Bass Strait has resumed production following the completion of a major planned maintenance program.

BassGas taps reopen

Production from the Origin Energy-operated project was shutdown on November 22, 2009 to allow maintenance activities to be carried out on the onshore gas plant, the offshore production platform and producing wells.

Origin said the facility is now progressively being brought back online with production initially from Yolla-4 which is producing at a rate of around 50 terajoules per day during the ramp-up phase.

Following the ramp-up, wireline operations will resume on Yolla-3 to retrieve equipment used to isolate the well during the maintenance operations before production from the well restarts.

The BassGass project in T/L1 and T/RL1 of the Bass Basin consists of an offshore, unmanned wellhead platform which is connected by pipeline to the gas processing facility at Lang Lang in Victoria. The project began gas sales in 2006 and has a field life of at least 20 years.

Origin Energy is operator with a 42.5% stake. AWE also holds 42.5% while CalEnergy Gas has 15%.
