QGC issued the statement following increased gas production from Lauren-3 in ATP 620P. The well accesses only the deeper Taroom coal seams and has flowed gas at 509,000 cubic feet per day (cfd), averaging 446,000 cfd over the past week.
“This result indicates that additional gas resources on the Undulla Nose are available by accessing the underlying Taroom coal seams,” said a QGC drilling report.
"To date only the Juandah gas reserves have been certified. QGC estimates that the increase in recoverable gas could be as high as 30% across the Undulla Nose.”
The Taroom seams require only about 100 metres of incremental drilling costs,” said QGC managing director Richard Cottee.
"If proved up [these seams] would require 30% fewer wells for every petajoule of gas sold over the life of a given contract,” said QGC’s managing director Richard Cottee.
“To achieve these production levels so quickly and without pumping support from other wells in the vicinity, reinforces QGC’s view of the potential for coal seam gas, right across its Undulla Nose tenements,” he said.
ATP 620P (Argyle) is owned 59.375% by QGC and 40.625% by Pangaea Oil & Gas Pty Ltd while ATP632P / PL201 (Berwyndale South) will be owned 90% by QGC following completion of a farmout to the Sentient Global Resources Fund.
