Horwood has substantial financial and senior management experience in the resources business, with some 35 years of local and international involvement with the Rio Tinto Group, most recently retiring as managing director of Rio Tinto Australia.
He replaces the disgraced Trevor Kennedy, who stood down in the wake of the Offset Alpine printing company scandal. That matter is still under investigation.
He is presently chairman of Coal and Allied Industries and Energy Resources of Australia, and has filled senior executive positions in a number of Rio Tinto Group companies and as chairman of a number of Joint Ventures.
