“The company is exploring the availability of gas in countries abroad and the possibility of importing it in liquefied form and then to re-gassify and use it,” NTPC said in a statement released to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The state-owned firm needs the gas for its combined cycle power plants at Anta in Rajasthan, Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh and Kayamkulam in Kerala. Sources speaking to the Press Trust of India said NTPC was looking for either LNG or natural gas for a quotation of less than US$3 per million btu.
