After finding no commercial hydrocarbons at Sotto-1 ST1 in PSC A, the Stena Tay rig is currently plugging and abandoning that well and readying to move to the Espadon -1 location in PSC B.
Espadon-1 is a medium-risk, moderate-reward prospect about 108km west of Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital, and 13km west of the Tiof discovery. Water depth is roughly 1680m.
The well is targeting a salt dome with draped Lower Miocene sands in a similar structural setting to the Chinguetti Field. The sands are of roughly the same age as the Chinguetti and Tiof oil discoveries.
