Kiana-1 oil wildcat spuds in Cooper

The well will test the oil potential of a simple anticlinal closure at the Namur and Hutton Sandstone levels. Its planned total depth is 2041 metres and the well is expected to take about 14 days to drill and evaluate

Kiana-1 is about two kilometres south-west of the Muteroo oilfield, two kilometres north-east of the Spencer oilfield, and 35 kilometres west of

Moomba.

Participants in Kiana-1 are Beach Petroleum Ltd (Operator) 40%, Great Artesian Oil and Gas Ltd 30% and Magellan Petroleum Australia Ltd 30%.

This is the first of two wells in PEL 107 in which this joint venture will participate during 2005. After drilling Kiana-1, the Century 3 rig will move some 9km southwest to drill Tyringa-1, expected to spud on or about 7th September.
