EXPLORATION

Jamaica back with exploration bid

Jamaica is set to resume its oil exploration activities after a twenty year break from the industry.

In an attempt to echo the success of fellow Caribbean nations such as Trinidad and Tobago the country plans to follow up on the results from several joint ventures launched in the early 1980's.

Venezuela and Ecuador have offered technical support and guidance and it is planned to cover the exploration costs with private sector investments.

The government said that proposals are soon to be reviewed by the National Contracts Committee (NCC) in the hope that activity could be started this year.
