InterOil tries its luck with Black Bass

AFTER being delayed by heavy rainfall, InterOil has spudded its Black Bass well in PEL 236 in PNG, around 160km north-west of its Port Moresby oil refinery.

The company said it expected the well to take 45 days to reach the target depth of 1,200 metres where it would be testing the Intra Orubadi reef limestone.

It said a total probabilistic Monte Carlo simulation gave a 50% chance of yielding 46 million barrels of oil.

Black Bass-1 is the first of a recently announced eight-well drilling program that will extend into 2006.
