WA oil find for Aussie partners

Woodside and equal joint venture partner BHP Billiton have struck an oil column in the Stybarrow-...

The company said that wire logging of the well has been completed but interpretation of the results was continuing.

The WA-255-P JV has now sidetracked the well updip as Stybarrow-4 after encountering the oil column in sands of the objective Macedon interval.

The Atwood Eagle semi-submersible drilling rig is drilling the wells, which are located 2 kilometres northeast of Stybarrow-1, in water depths around 790 metres.

Previously the Stybarrow-2 well intersected a 22 metre oil column, two kilometres south-west of Stybarrow-1, which yielded a 23 metre oil column. The field is close enough to the planned Enfield development by Woodside to be considered for a tied in development.
