Origin’s underbalanced Horseshoe comes in a ringer

In a statement Origin said, “A test of the interval 1,732–1,809 metres in the appraisal well Horseshoe 3 has flowed gas at a stabilised rate of 3.6 million cubic feet per day from the Triassic Rewan Formation at a pressure of 570 psi through a ½” choke.”

According to Origin’s general manager (exploration), Dr Robert Willink, Horseshoe 3 is a conventional appraisal well which was drilled “underbalanced using coiled tubing unit and liquefied nitrogen to avoid formation damage”. The Triassic Rewan Formation was the primary objective.

“The well will be suspended for completion as a gas producer at a later date,” said Dr Willink.

Horseshoe 3 is located 25 km northeast of the Surat Township. Origin Energy CSG Ltd is the operator and sole stakeholder.
