Gregory River well to be sidetracked

Partners Magellan Petroleum and Novus Australia will sidetrack the Gregory River-3 well after the drill string became stuck down the hole last week.

A drilling report said a small section of the drilling assembly was unable to be recovered and will be left down hole. A cement plug will be set above this abandoned equipment and a new hole drilled from 2,512 metres to deviate around the obstruction towards the total depth of 3,200 metres.

Gregory River-3 is located approximately 30 kilometres south of the town of Bundaberg, within the Maryborough Basin.

Participants are Magellan Petroleum (48% - operator), Novus Australia (50%) and QGAS Pty Ltd (2%).
