QGC: the bad with the good

Tempering Queensland Gas Company's good news that the gas flows out of the Berwyndale South pilot CBM project are enough to power some of their newly installed dewatering pumps, is the downside that the increased horsepower has dragged solids into two of the pumps, impacting their performance.

QGC: the bad with the good

QGC was not concerned by this initial teething problem and was expecting workovers to lift gas production above the current 60-100 million cubic feet per day the project was yielding.

"A particularly pleasing aspect of the core hole was the surprisingly high drop in the formation pressure encountered (40psi in the Argyle seam and 60psi in the Bulwer seam). This would have been caused by the pumping of water at the Berwyndale South pilot some 2km away," said QGC.

"Given the fact that the larger pumps had only just been installed, this result indicates not only good permeability but also that there is strong communication between the core hole and the pilot. The high permeability and the connectivity to the pilot, will substantially enhance the reserves in the area."
