Tasmania Power 2005 to tackle state's energy issues

Tasmania Power 2005 will be held from November 7-9 at the Wrest Point Casino in Hobart. The forum will include a discussion of changes to retail and energy pricing in Tasmania, a debate about renewable energy, as well as key speakers from energy companies and government departments.

Key speakers at this year’s event include: Hydro Tasmania CEO Geoff Willis; Aurora Energy CEO Peter Davis; Transend Networks CEO Richard Bevan; Australian Energy Regulator chairman Steve Edwell; Powerdirect CEO Andrew Bonwick; and department of economic development secretary Norm McIlfatrick.

Organisers said the conference would also:

• receive a report on the new National Regulatory structure from the Office of the Australian Energy Regulator;

• be updated on the Basslink interconnector;

• get a report on the implementation of the National Energy Market;

• hear how government investment and partnership can yield dividends for economic development;

• analyse the changes to the Tasmanian energy market over the next 12 months;

• explore the strategic development of Tasmania’s energy capacity;

• discuss the impact of competition on electricity retail service in Tasmania; and

• be a part of a comprehensive discussion on the prospects for energy development, renewable energy and energy investment in Tasmania.

Now in its seventh year, Tasmania Power is the state’s only strategic forum for the energy industry, say organisers.

The conference will be held November 7-9 at Wrest Point Casino, Hobart. To register phone +61 2 9005 0777 or visit www.terrapinn.com/2005/taspwr_au
