The Tokyo Electric Power Co, Tohoku Electric Power Co, Hokkaido Electric Power Co and Chubu Electric Power Co have planned to cut their monthly charges for average-sized households by up to 50 yen from current levels. Meanwhile, Tokyo Gas Co, Osaka Gas Co and Toho Gas Co customers will see up to 66 yen chopped off their bills. And the Hokuriku Electric Power Co, Chugoku Electric Power Co and Saibu Gas Co have promised not to raise their prices during the three-month period.

Under the country's energy price system, gas and electricity bills are modified on a quarterly basis. The prices take in consideration fluctuations in expenses like the import prices of fuel oil and currency exchange rates and bill their customers accordingly.
