PTTP plans for third Thai pipeline

Thailand’s PTT Petroleum’s (PTTP) plans for a third natural gas pipeline, slated for completion in March 2006, may be pushed thanks to growing domestic demand for gas.

A PTTP official said, “[PTTP’s] ongoing acceleration plan will hasten the first delivery of natural gas by at least two months.”

As revealed by Dow Jones Newswires, the unnamed official declared, “Our gas supply/demand situation is in deficit right now. There’s an urgent need to accelerate the third gas pipeline project.”

“We’re likely to receive the initial flow of 370 million cubic feet per day from Arthit field in January 2006,” added the official.

The 500 km pipeline connects the offshore Arthit gas field to Erawan and Rayong on Thailand’s east coast. Currently, Thailand receives around 1.74 billion cubic feet of gas per day – via the country’s two existing pipelines – from Myanmar to the west and from the Gulf of Thailand.
