Official: Only 3% of oil, 15% of gas in Pakistan has been discovered

Pakistan’s Additional Secretary and Director General Petroleum Ministry of Petroleum, G.A. Sabri, has revealed on Pakistani television that the country has the potential to explore 27 billion barrels of oil and 280 trillion cubic feet of gas and that only 3% of total oil and 15% of gas potential have so far been discovered.

With these facts in mind, Sabri feels that Pakistan untapped should be and will be exploited. According to Sabri, “To date only 0.8 billion [barrels of oil] and 42 trillion cubic feet gas [have] been discovered. [I vow] to accelerate the exploration process of [the] 97% untapped oil and 85% yet to be discovered gas potentials.”

Sabri also revealed that Total and Shell would soon begin explorations in Pakistan within the next two years and that the Indus Basin is the area with a high potential for lucrative oil and gas yield.
