Federal Environment Minister Ian Campbell will lead the tour in October and said it would help the industry establish high-level contacts with business and government representatives in China.
“China presents a huge potential market for Australian renewable energy products and expertise, particularly in light of its booming economy and energy demand,” Campbell said.
Campbell said China was the second-largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions and had severe environmental pollution issues, which meant it was looking to the renewable sector to play a key role in meeting its future energy needs.
The minister said the need to effectively engage China in practical climate change action had also been a priority and that the relationship built under the Australia-China Climate Change proved the worth of such alliances.
He said the trade mission would demonstrate the extent of Australia’s interests and capabilities in renewable energy, and would help Australian businesses gain access to the rapidly growing market.
