RENEWABLE ENERGY

Sun power for the Himalayas

The China-controlled Tibet Autonomous Region has “efficiently carried through” three plans to maximise the use of solar power in the area.

The three schemes are the Tibet Sunlight Plan, the Light of Science Plan and the Ari Photoelectricity Plan.

In a statement by the Tibet Solar Energy Research Institute, “The move has well alleviated local intense energy shortage.”

“At present, Tibet Autonomous Region has constructed 14 county-class small independent solar power plants, and Tibet has become the largest region to use solar energy to generate most power and produce solar batteries, which has enormously improved the electricity shortage for local herdsmen.”

“Tibet has [also] applied more than 7 million kilowatt solar power in relay stations for microwave communications and has built 1,300 small solar power plants, and the application of solar system will be a mainstream in Tibet,” added the statement.
