ASSOCIATION OF MINING & EXPLORATION COMPANIES: Graham Short has joined the Association as national manager - advocacy and public affairs.
AMEC is the voice of mineral exploration in Australia and has the largest membership of all representative bodies operating in this sector of the industry.
Short's role will see him involved with members of the media, government and other stakeholders at state and federal levels on all matters related to:-
1. Land access for mineral exploration (includes native title and aboriginal affairs; mining legislation and regulatory compliance; licence approvals).
2. Exploration incentives and information (includes fiscal and investment incentives; availability of geoscientific data).
3. Environmental and sustainable development (includes environmental regulation; biodiversity conservation; self regulation and education).
Short's background is as former chief executive of the Western Australian Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC), the Motor Trade Association (MTA), a business consulting group and 40 years business experience, of which 20 years were in five state government departments.
In addition to broad industry and issue representation experience, Short also has experience in natural resource management, ecological sustainable development and industry regulation.
