The wellness garden has been funded through proceeds from the sale of food and beverages at the Inpex workforce accommodation village which houses workers for the Ichthys' onshore component of its LNG project.

Inpex has invested more than $1.5 million into local community projects, organisations and events since 2013 through the funding program.

The new wellness garden is the most significant single investment through that process and came at a cost of around $300,000.

"Like INPEX and Ichthys LNG, this garden will be here for the long haul for the benefit of Territorians and I look forward to seeing it grow and develop," Inpex NT general manager Roland Houareau said.

"This is a place of comfort and inspiration in times of need and a place of joy."

Local landscape architects Clouston Associates designed and constructed the garden which includes a personal reflection space and relaxation area. There is also a designated area for group events.

Respected Larrakia artist Joe Raymond prepared artwork for the garden, based on the animals and plants associated with the seven-season Larrakia calendar.

Shade and cooling structures feature in the garden and provide protection from the elements.

"I thank INPEX and Ichthys LNG for funding the Palmerston Regional Hospital Wellness Garden to support amenity and real benefits for patient health and wellbeing," Northern Territory health minister Natasha Fyles said.

Palmerston Regional Hospital opened in August 2018.

The 116 bed hospital provides emergency care, mental health services as well as rehabilitation services.
