The pre-FEED work will be undertaken by the RDS London team, which will carry out the full design of the drilling facilities on the platform.

With preparations underway, a team of 15-20 RDS engineering and management personnel will work on the Snorre C drilling facility design for the next five months.

RDS senior vice-president Simon Drew said the project built on the company's workload of Statoil projects and strengthened its portfolio of tension leg platforms.

The Snorre field, spanning blocks 34-4 and 34-7 in the Tampen area of the Norwegian North Sea, is located at a water depth between 300m and 350m.

The field is operated by Statoil on behalf of the Snorre partners.

RDS is the rig design and engineering subsidiary of international drilling contractor KCA Deutag.
