Before fraccing, the well flowed from the same 4800-foot horizontal well bore at only about 68bopd.
"The recent increase in the price of crude oil to in excess of US$100 per barrel means that the net oil rate of around 100 barrels of oil per day is expected to positively impact on Samson's cash flow," said Samson, which holds a 34.5% stake in the well.
Following this successful result, Samson said the JV has created two additional proved undeveloped locations, and the first will be drilled in the next few months.
According to Samson, the JV intends to improve the design of these wells, with the horizontal section diameter to be increased to allow the acid stimulation to be achieved in multiple, discrete mechanically separated sections within the well bore.
"This will allow for multiple fracture creation and therefore the subsequent oil rate will be improved," the company said.
The Harstad well is located in the Williston Basin in North Dakota and produces from the Bluell Formation, which is developed in this field using horizontal completions.
