Kiana-1 well now producing 750 barrels a day: Beach

The upper of two Patchawarra Formation oil sands, which was perforated soon after the well was drilled last September, has been flowing around 400 barrels of oil per day at 100psi flowing tubing pressure.

After the second, lower sand was perforated, the well is now producing at a combined rate of about 750 barrels of oil per day at 410psi flowing tubing pressure. The average gas-oil ratio is 38 standard cubic feet per barrel.

Beach said it expects this rate will rise to 1000 barrels per day in the coming weeks. Plans are currently underway to install an artificial lift in the well, the company said.

Kiana-1 is about 2km south-west of the Muteroo Oil Field, 2km north-east of the Spencer Oil Field, and 35km west of Moomba.

Joint venture participants in the Kiana-1 well are Beach Petroleum, who is the operator and holds a 40% stake, Great Artesian Oil and Gas (30%) and Magellan Petroleum Australia (30%).
