This first shipment of Sakhalin light low-sulphur crude totalled 170,000 barrels and was shipped from the Vityaz production facility in the Piltun-Astokhskoye field to TEPCO’s refinery at Akita.

The RIA-Novosti report said Japan’s utility firms were viewing Sakhalin oil as a viable alternative to crude imported from elsewhere.
