Syntroleum Corporation owns a proprietary GTL process for converting natural gas into synthetic liquid hydrocarbons. The plant under study would include gas processing to extract natural gas liquids and a gas-to-liquids section, utilising the Syntroleum process, producing a nominal 20,000 barrels per day of liquids.
The study, which is expected to take up to four months to complete, will cover sourcing of natural gas from Oil Search’s substantial resource base in
PNG, transportation to the GTL facility, cost estimates for the GTL barge and a review of product marketing. The facility would use up to 190 million cubic feet of natural gas feedstock per day.
“This feasibility study is the first step in exploring yet another potential use for our substantial gas resources and complements other initiatives underway to develop a PNG in-country gas-based industry,” said Peter Botten, Oil Search’s managing director.
