Deepwater Angola attracts major attention

Jasmim, operated by Total, is located 150km northwest of Luanda in water depths of 1,400m.

Discovered in April 2000, the field is one of fifteen discoveries announced in Block 17, is the second to be brought on stream following Girassol in December of 2001 and consists of eight sub-sea wells tied back to the Girassol Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

Jasmim will increase production on Block 17 to at least 230,000 barrels of oil a day to the Girassol FPSO and prolong the production plateau. The partners also consider the well as an integral part of the growth strategy for Block 17 production.

ExxonMobil's subsidiary, Esso Exploration Angola (Block 17) Limited, has a 20% interest in the Jasmim development with coventurers Total E&P Angola (operator 40 %), BP (16.67%), Statoil (13.33%), and Norsk Hydro (10%) with Sonangol acting as the concessionaire for the block.
