The project involved the completion of a novel polyimide membrane facility used for carbon dioxide removal and was undertaken alongside existing plant which had to be kept operating without disruption. The Ballera Gas Centre is one of the major gas-producing hubs supplying the state of Queensland and is operated by Santos.
The scope of work included a second dew point control unit (DPCU), upgrades to the existing membrane CO2 removal facilities, together with associated interconnection and utility works.
Aker Kvaerner Australia was the engineering contractor for three previous major development phases for the Ballera Gas Centre in the late 1990s.
Construction of the original Ballera Gas Plant commenced in 1991 when the Queensland Government agreed to allow the South West Queensland Unit Producers to complete the sale of 300 petajoules (PJ) of sales gas to South Australia.
