Korean government, LG-Caltex cracks whip

In a statement the Deputy Chief for Public Security at the State Prosecution Office Ahn Chang-ho said, “Prosecutors might seek more warrants to arrest striking workers if the illegal union action dragged on or turned violent, after a district court issued arrest warrants for five union chiefs.”

In related news, LG-Caltex has issued an ultimatum to its striking workers.

In a statement the firm said, “Striking workers [have] until 5 pm on Friday to return to work or face stern action. Any worker absent for 15 consecutive working days without permission could be sacked.”

“[We have] notified 50 strike leaders they would be brought before a committee for punishment,” added the firm without elaborating further.
