According to a press release from the company, the gas produced from the well will be transported via a subsea pipeline to its LNG plant in Malaysia for shipment to Japan. Nippon oil is the first Japanese company to "produce, liquefy and market natural gas at its own facilities."

Nippon Oil Exploration is a joint venture company between three other Japanese companies with Nippon Oil holding a majority stake (40.15%). The other investors are Japan National Oil Corp (38.58%), Teikoku Oil Co (15%) and Mitsubishi Corp (6.27%).
