PNG refinery starts in earnest

The first concrete steps towards the Clough Group's construction of the InterOil oil refinery in PNG have been taken, as construction materials start to arrive on site. Infrastructure works have already been completed.

Clough has an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract with InterOil and the facility is expected to be on line by the end of 2003.

The refinery is being built in the undeveloped Napa Napa area across the harbour from Port Moresby and is designed to process 32,000 bopd.

The refinery is expected to satisfy the entire domestic PNG market, with 35% remaining for export to Shell Overseas Holdings Ltd.
