Around 60% of the refinery's production goes to Jakarta, consisting of gas, kerosene and diesel with the remainder going to West Java. During the maintenance process, Pertamina will buy crude oil and process it in Singapore. In addition, Pertamina will also buy fuel on the spot market.

The Balongan refinery produces around 100,000 barrels per day of fuel, around 10% of Pertamina's total production of one million barrels per day from its seven refineries.

The deal with Singapore Petroleum was originally for the processing of 62,500bopd of Minas crude and 30,000bopd of Iranian light crude for at least two months but could possibly be for longer.

Pertamina's production generally covers 80% of the country's total fuel consumption with the remaining 20% bought from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the spot market.

Diesel consumption in Jakarta reaches around 2.2 million kilolitres annually, followed by premium gasoline at 1.9 million kilolitres a year, and kerosene at 1.5 million kilolitres a year.
