The two US oil giants, which agreed to a merger in November last year in a deal worth around $US35 billion, said the merger should be finalised later this year and the changes announced should be completed by the end of 2003.
ConocoPhillips's headquarters will be based in Houston. Also located in Houston will be the company's downstream refining, wholesale marketing and specialities business.
In addition, the company commercial centre, which includes supply and trading of crude oil, refined products, natural gas liquids, natural gas and power will also be based in Houston.
The Oklahoma city of Bartlesville will be home to the company's global information technology centre, global financial services and human resources support organisations.
Staying in Oklahoma will be the Ponca City Refinery as well R&D activities including the development of the carbon fibres and gas-to-liquids businesses.
Tempe, Arizona will be home to ConocoPhillips' retail marketing organisation and associated support services. Currently, Tempe is the location of Phillips' wholesale and retail marketing organisation.
ConocoPhillips said as a result of the above announcements, jobs will be lost in Houston, Tempe and Ponca City. Employment in Bartlesville will remain the same.
