"We are not opposed to industry but we have to stop and look at whose interests these developments are serving," Greens MLC, Mr Robin Chapple, said.
Last week, the WA Government announced it had approved funding for a $22.6 million desalination plant, which paved the way for the development of a proposed $600 million liquid ammonia plant on the peninsula.
The Burrup Fertilisers project is one of six planned for the peninsula worth a total of $6 billion. The WA Government has committed $136 million to provide infrastructure to encourage development of an industrial estate on the Burrup.
A spokeswoman for the Conservation Council warned WA could become a dumping ground for greenhouse emissions and would increase its level of emissions by 50%.
