Licence deal boosts delivery of well data

A licensing deal between Schlumberger and Wireless Matrix Corporation will optimise well producti...

The deal is for five years for the global master purchase and licensing agreement for select components of Wireless Matrix's Remote Data Management, a telemetry services product, and Wide Area Wireless technology.

Wireless Matrix's Wide Area Wireless technology, which includes its Processor Assisted Connector (PAC) and Field Data Exec, will complement the Schlumberger DeXa.Net* secure global connectivity services to transfer production and operation data from producing wells to authorized personnel through the Schlumberger InterACT* wellsite monitoring and control system. The combination of Wireless Matrix technologies with the Schlumberger DeXa.Net and InterACT results in well site production optimisation, according to the companies.

"Production optimisation is a strategic and significant service offering for Schlumberger and is dependent upon the availability of real-time data from locations that are usually remote," said Xavier Flinois, president of Schlumberger Network and Infrastructure Solutions.

"In particular, Wireless Matrix's technology will allow improvement on current SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system effectiveness by enhancing communication flexibility and robustness."

"The combination of InterACT and components of our Remote Data Management solution establishes a significant new service offering for remote asset management," said John Herring, president and CEO of Wireless Matrix. "The teaming of Wireless Matrix and Schlumberger through this agreement provides both companies with enhanced opportunities to provide best-in-class service and products for our oil and gas clients."

The Schlumberger InterACT system provides users secure, real-time two-way communications and access to oilfield data at all stages of the exploration and production cycle. Authorized personnel can exchange files of standard data types and formats, including drilling reports, wireline and logging-while drilling logs, well stimulation data, and surface and subsurface production data.

Update options allow data to be refreshed at predetermined intervals; and data can be viewed in real time for time-critical operations. DeXa.Net is part of the Schlumberger DeXa Suite of Services and provides broadband fiber and satellite-based connectivity services for delivering real-time data anywhere in the world.
