“The operator reported that DST 1, testing the Cadna-owie over the interval 1156 metres to 1165 metres recovered 14.3 barrels of 43.3 API gravity oil and 3.3 barrels of oil-cut mud from the drill string following a four-hour flow period,” junior partner Stuart Petroleum said in a statement yesterday.
The well will now be cased and completed as a future oil producer. Its McKinlay level will be brought into production as soon as practicable and the significance of the Cadna-owie discovery will be the subject of further evaluation, according to Stuart.
The well is 90m west-northwest of Derrilyn-1 in the Derrilyn Block in Cooper Basin permits PPL 206 and 208.
Derrilyn-1 and 2 found oil in both the McKinlay and Hutton foundations, but these two wells are producing strongly from the Hutton, so Derrilyn-3 was designed as the first off-take point for the field’s McKinlay oil pool.
Participating interests are Santos, which holds a 65% stake and Stuart Petroleum (35%).
