McDermott signs big Caspian Sea deal

While the American 'War on Terrorism' continues unabated in Afghanistan, next door around the oil...

One good example is McDermott International Inc, which has just signed two lucrative contracts in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.

The two contracts, which are valued at $320 million, are both for the first phase of the development of the Azeri, Chirag and deepwater portion of the Gunashli (ACG) fields in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. The first involves fabrication of platform topsides and the second contract is for the installation of offshore pipelines.

McDermott's scope of work for platform topsides will involve fabrication, assembly, hook-up and commissioning of a 14,000 metric ton (15,400 tons) integrated drilling/quarters/ production deck.

As for the pipeline contract, McDermott will be responsible for the offshore installation of a 185 km, 30-inch pipeline and two 11km 24-inch pipelines, and an 11km 18-inch pipeline for the compressor and water injection platform.
