ITC scores African FPSO gigs

SATELLITE communications provider ITC Global has been awarded two three-year multi-million dollar contracts to provide remote offshore communications to five floating production, storage and offloading vessels based in west Africa, including for Eni's East Hub project in Angola.

The service will be delivered to several major European-based oil and gas companies including Italian players Saipem and Eni.

Eni's exploration and development activities in Angola are focused on conventional and deep offshore areas covering 21,489sq.km, including 4442sq.km net to Eni.

In 2013, Eni's share of hydrocarbon production in the country amounted to 87,000 barrels of oil per day, with additional stakes in other licenses not in production, particularly in the Lianzi development area.

The FPSOs, operating in the Congo, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea, are each outfitted with two Cband stabilised antennas, delivering between 4 and 10 Mbps high data rate service to the vessels.

ITC said the custom engineered solution was designed to enable increased automation at the remote site, reducing the number of remote workers required on each FPSO at one time.

"As the industry continues to experience unpredictability, ITC Global has seen tremendous opportunity to improve operational processes and systems, and drive efficiencies for customers," said ITC CEO Joe Spytek said.

"While some oil and gas service providers have responded to recent market dynamics through consolidations and cost cuts, ITC Global is focused on putting customers in the best position to weather industry headwinds and be prepared for growth."

With certified field technicians based in strategic locations throughout western Africa, ITC utilised its local presence to ensure fast installation and commissioning of each FPSO for the customer's African operations.

ITC was acquired by North American multinational Panasonic Corporation last August, and now operates as an independent unit of Panasonic Avionics Corporation, which provides inflight communications and entertainment systems to the aviation market.

Collectively, ITC Global and Panasonic Avionics are one of the world's largest buyers of commercial satellite capacity.

ITC said that joining Panasonic would further help it assist customers to meet demands for increased bandwidth, better performance, and overall lower costs for satcom systems, networks and equipment.
