The guidebook explains the legislation governing offshore safety, the role of health and safety representatives within this system, and how to provide effective representation on health and safety matters.
"The role of a HSR is vital in the overall offshore safety regime as both the industry and its workforce are empowered to identify and report potential hazards and to ensure that control measures are implemented," NOPSA chief executive John Clegg said.
"Health and safety for Australia's offshore petroleum industry is regulated by NOPSA through the safety case regime. This world-class regulatory framework supports high standards of health and safety behaviour within the offshore industry."
The HSR 2008 Handbook is now available on the NOPSA website at: www.nopsa.gov.au/hsr.asp
NOPSA also holds an annual HSR Forum, to be held on August 5 at the Burswood Convention and Entertainment Complex in Perth, and HSR online (www.hsronline.com.au) to encourage elected health and safety representatives to share information and knowledge about their roles.
