AGL’s Sustainability Report 2004 report was praised for demonstrating a “high level of detail and rigour”, having an innovative approach to revealing environmental impacts and having the flexibility for use in both the upstream and downstream sectors to improve energy efficiency and optimise human resources management practices.
A three-member assessment panel, using a detailed quantitative and qualitative assessment model developed by the federal Department of Environment and Heritage, unanimously chose the AGL report as the best report for 2004. Environmental reports from International Power Hazelwood and Integral Energy were also commended.
ESAA CEO Brad Page praised the high standard of entries for this year’s award.
“This year’s entries demonstrate the commitment the energy industry is making to environmental matters, and importantly, its increasing adoption of broader social aspects, such as employee and community issues, into sustainability reporting,” Page said.
“AGL, International Power Hazelwood and Integral Energy are to be congratulated for their efforts in improving the transparency and accessibility of their sustainability initiatives.”
The Environment Report Award, which has been awarded since 2000, aims to encourage member businesses to prepare environmental reports and improve the content and effectiveness of such reports.
