New panel to watch QLD energy reform

Mickel said the EDSD Implementation and Monitoring Unit will be chaired by Daryl Somerville who has a unique understanding of the importance of the implementation task arising from his role as the Chair of the Somerville Report Independent Panel.

"Somerville will provide the expertise and knowledge that will assist the Government to deliver on the report and the Action Plan," Mickel said.

The three objectives of the panel will be to:Monitor the implementation of all aspects of the EDSD review recommendations directed at Government; Monitor the implementation of the EDSD recommendations directed at ENERGEX and Ergon Energy; and Work with the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) as it implements the recommendations directed at the QCA, and implement the outcomes of Government policy decisions relevant to the Government's recommendations.
