End of the line for North Qld pipe

Construction began in March, and the project is set to be completed on time and on budget. The pipeline will create a strategic link between the North Bowen Basin and Townsville, providing future interconnection to Central Queensland markets such as Gladstone and Rockhampton.

The construction of the 391km pipeline will deliver gas from the new coal seam methane production field near Moranbah to Mount Stuart in Townsville and the nearby power station at Yabulu.

The associated upgrade of the 160MW Yabulu Power Station is also running to plan with the plant expected to be fully operational by the end of 2005. Owner operator Transfield originally signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement with Queensland Transmission and Supply Corporation (Enertrade) in 1996.

It is expected that the pipeline will be delivering gas to Townsville by September 15.
