Front-end engineering and design contractor the JKC joint venture - consisting of JGC Corporation, KBR and Chiyoda Corporation - is carrying out the tender process, Inpex Australia president director Seiya Ito said.
"This is another important milestone for the Ichthys project as we move toward a final investment decision in quarter four 2011," he said.
Construction of Ichthys would not start until all environmental and other relevant regulatory approvals from the federal and Northern Territory governments had been received.
More than 70 major packages will be released over the coming months, with Ito urging Australian companies seeking to benefit from the opportunity to register with the Industry Capability Network in the NT.
The $US20 billion ($A20.7 billion) Ichthys project contains plans for what could be the world's largest floating processing platform, capable of stripping out 100,000 barrels of condensate per day, and a subsea pipeline more than 850 kilometres long to the onshore LNG plant at Blaydin Point.
Ichthys will have an initial output of 8.4 million tonnes per annum of LNG from two trains. It will also produce about 1.6MMtpa of liquefied petroleum gas. First gas is expected in 2016.
