According to Petronet's finance director, P. Dasgupta, "We've got a special fixed price from RasGas for five years of the 20-year contract." Under the terms of the agreement, Petronet will import around five million tonnes of Qatari LNG at an aggregate fixed price of around US$800 million per year. These terms apply until December 2008 when it will be re-negotiated.
For the mathematically inclined, the deal works out to around US$3.25/MMbtu or around 25% cheaper than current Asian LNG prices.
