The order came from the Sakhalin Energy Investment Co, a joint venture between Royal Dutch/Shell Group, Mitsui & Co and Mitsubishi Corp, that intends to build a 1,600 km pipeline that will transport extracted natural gas and crude oil from off the eastern shores of the island of Sakhalin and transport them - via the pipeline - to a refinery on the island.

Metal One is expected to procure the steel pipe from JFE Steel Corp, Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd and Nippon Steel Corp.
