LNG (LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS)

Indonesian LNG prices under pressure

Despite already promising to lower prices for LNG sales to Japan, the Indonesian government has been asked - again - to lower its prices or risk losing its customer to more affordable offers.

Indonesian LNG prices under pressure

According to Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Purnomo Yusgiantoro, "Japan wants the price of our LNG to be reduced but as to how much, it remains unclear. That is a figure that we have to find out."

He had earlier offered a lower rate than the one given under the current terms in order to guarantee continued export of Indonesian LNG to Japan.

Under the terms of the agreement between the countries, by 2010, six million tonnes of LNG will have been shipped off to Japan. After that, Japan is free to buy its LNG from other sources.
